A message from Sister Esther Pilar

Dear Families and Faithful Friends,

May the Hearts of Jesus and Mary be your refuge and strength!

With great joy, we welcome you to another year of Faith Formation at Saint Gregory Parish. It is a blessing to accompany your family as together we seek to know Christ more deeply, love Him more faithfully, and follow Him more closely.

At Saint Gregory Parish faith formation program,  we desire to help every child and family encounter the transforming love of God through prayer, the sacraments, formation, and a living relationship with Jesus Christ. Our goal is not simply to prepare children to receive a sacrament, but to help form missionary disciples who live their faith with conviction, joy, and fidelity.

Our parish offers a two-year sacramental preparation program for children preparing to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation. This preparation is a sacred journey that invites the entire family to grow in faith and to deepen its commitment to Christ and His Church.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us:

“The sacraments are efficacious signs of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, by which divine life is dispensed to us.” (CCC 1131)

The sacraments are not merely milestones to be completed; they are encounters with Jesus Christ, who pours His grace into our lives and strengthens us to live as His disciples.

Because faith is first lived in the home, our program includes Parent Formation throughout the year. The Church teaches that parents are the primary educators of their children in the faith. Through these sessions, we hope to support and encourage you in this beautiful vocation.

The Catechism teaches:

“Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children in the faith, prayer, and all the virtues.” (CCC 2252)

Your witness of prayer, participation at Sunday Mass, love, and fidelity to the Gospel has a profound impact on your child's faith journey. No catechist can replace the example of a parent who strives to live a life centered on Christ.

This year, we are blessed to have as our patron saint Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, the beloved “Little Flower.” Through her simple yet profound spirituality, she teaches us that holiness is found in the ordinary moments of daily life when they are lived with great love.

As St. Thérèse wrote:

“Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love.”

May her “Little Way” inspire our children, parents, catechists, and volunteers to grow in humility, trust, and love for God.

We also want to emphasize the importance of faithful attendance and active participation. Consistent participation in classes, parent sessions, retreats, parish events, and especially Sunday Mass is essential for authentic growth in the faith. Just as we cannot grow physically without regular nourishment, we cannot grow spiritually without continual formation and encounter with Christ.

We encourage every family to:

  • Attend Sunday Mass and Holy Days of Obligation faithfully. Turn in mass homework to the catechist.
  • Pray together as a family each day.
  • Participate fully in parent formation opportunities.
  • Foster a Catholic environment within the home.
  • Support your child in completing assignments and participating actively in class.
  • Cultivate a personal relationship with Jesus through prayer and the sacraments.

Every moment of formation is an invitation to allow Jesus and Mary to form our hearts according to God's plan. We entrust this year to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, asking her to guide our families ever closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Please know that our Faith Formation team is praying for you and your family. We look forward to walking this journey together and witnessing the many ways the Lord will work in your hearts throughout the year.

May Our Lady keep you under her maternal mantle, and may the Sacred Heart of Jesus fill your home with His peace and love.

May love always triumph!
